Changing names and holding space

orange honeycomb

I set out writing about something completely different in my journal and somehow this memory of someone I used to work with came forward and became today’s draft.

Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when published"Corpse pose is a pose of renewal. It is a place for the cells to regenerate, to switch over into new and better versions of themselves."This is what Sheilla says. Still, in her work at the cancer center, she carefully calls it "sponge pose" holds the other name in her head along with prognosis and the last line of notes on this patient's chart. The patient reclines in the hammock chair, eyes closed the glow of a salt lamp touching just the highest angle of her cheek. Sheilla sits in the shadows, waits in the shadows, holds the shadows softly in her hands while the patient rests in sponge pose.
