On love and loss

In the northern hemisphere, we have made it through the six darkest weeks of the year. Even if it doesn’t feel like it, the light is returning. Today’s draft is inspired by exploring those darker places — loss, grief, etc.

You thought you two were stitched together
onto a stiff cotton fabric
with expert even cross stitches
designed to hold together always.
How, then, has your beloved dropped away
so easily?
Even your growing awareness
that the thread of you together
still exists, can be followed,
will lead to love beyond your comprehension–
Even this is no comfort to you
as you lie awake in darkness in a half-cold bed.
