Where Words Go

Menopause brain continues

Hello Dear Ones! I have just started reading a book called The Menopause Brain by Lisa Mosconi. So far, it’s fascinating to learn what may actually be happening inside the black box of my skull as I step fully into menopause. What a landscape.

Today’s draft is inspired by what might be happening in my brain when I have trouble finding a word (a near-daily occurrence at the moment.)

P.S. If you are entering the landscape of menopause, you may want to send me a message so you can get on the list to be notified for the re-opening of Crone School. In this 4-week program, Malik Turley and I offer science, support, and movement practices to help bring you to a deeper understanding of menopause.

It may help me to know

there are white matter lesions on my brain

blocking the path of word to memory.

That it is not unusual for a woman of my age

to find myself pressed against a mind-blank space

feeling around for the word that means "exit."

I'm not sure what this means for me --

a person who loves how words go --

When the words neither come nor go

there is silence

silence and breathing

silence and breathing and heartbeat

mumbled sounds and exclamations that land

somewhere in the void

where the words go
