When In the December Morning I Smile

Dear Ones, how are you doing? How are you managing through this winter? I have been managing by embracing rest even as I reach out to connect and plant the seeds of friendships that will blossom in the next season. Today’s draft was inspired by looking at the sliver of shadowed trees out the transom windows when I sat down on my yoga mat at 5am.

It is not light, not even the promise of light.

It is trust that the world beyond the shuttered windows is

much the same as yesterday and

by the time I finish this press full of coffee,

I will find the landscape much the same.

Perhaps the neighbor's apple tree a little more winter-bare,

or the Winterberry home to one more brown sparrow.

I have faith that when I leave my house,

I step into a peacefulness

suspended in the cold December air.
