What Happens if You Cry
Just a little imagining
I don’t know if this draft is an essay or a poem for some kind of fiction. I just had fun playing with repetition.
Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when publishedIf you cry in a tanning bed, those little alien goggles that protect your eyes will fill with your tears and then your eyes will really start to burn and itch. That'll give you something to cry about. And if you cry while walking to the train station after dark, people will cross the street to get away from you. Safety tip.And if you cry on a Zoom with the filter and the mute on, people might just assume you are making weird faces. They might think you're having a stroke. Be careful with that. And if you cry while reading your poetry to a room of people, someone will come up to you with tissues and try to get you to stop. Don't. This isn't about what's comfortable. And if you cry in the presence of your most beloved, not from sadness but from knowing after years the taste of absolute vibrating joy in every fiber of every muscle -- your beloved will hold you, you will feel their smile while their chin rests on the top of your head -- and this will make you cry even more, until you soak their shoulder so it looks like your beloved is weeping from their very skin and bones.
