What do I avoid?

An answer to a workshop question

It is a new moon, and this means a plethora of clearing, meditation, and challenge offerings from the various people who have me on their email lists. I chose one that spoke to me, and the question for the day was: What do I avoid? Today’s SFD is the start of an answer to that question.

There is a clearing at the hilltop

of the land that used to belong to my grandparents.

When the sky is clear,

you can see all the way down to the river

through a tumbling slope of trees, overgrown and green,

hints of paths known only to the deer in summertime.

In my dreams I am standing there.

Long, heat-blanched grass brushes at my calves.

The yellow daylight reveals the color of a butterfly against the treetops,

the smell of the river water rising up into a cloudless sky.

Standing in daylight unfiltered by branches shade.

I am in the open air --

hot and humid and full of sunlight that will singe my pale skin --

thus unprotected --

I am revealed.
