Welcome Me

Sending a greeting in early Spring

Today’s draft is a combination of two poems that really just wanted to be joined together. As I continue the Stafford Challenge, holding lightly to any ideas about “finished,” I am noticing how ideas resurface with new clothes on. The spiral shape of our lives is visible everywhere — especially in those things where we think we have control.

A trapezoid of sun

on a soft fleece blanket.

Wind runs its fingers through bare tree branches.

Poised to exhale, with uncovered heads we venture

into unfiltered late March day.

Welcome me with snow-dusted eucalyptus wreath,

bashful green buds clinging to

stark exposed branches,

with red cheeks and split cuticles,

sweater pulled from winter storage,

radiator hissing exhale into

tender space of early Spring.

Evanston Conscious Movement Festival Check in

I spend much of my days now thinking about the Evanston Conscious Movement Festival, and planning how to make a ritual of the days. (April 12-14 in and around Evanston, IL.) This space has been forming in my mind and heart for years, and I am looking forward to opening it up for folks. I hope to see you there.

On the very excellent suggestion of my friend Brianne, I have scheduled a Free Preview Event, where you can experience some of festival offerings and hear more about the event from the comfort of your own home. Join me in virtual space on March 28 at 5:30pm Central time. Just like the live festival, you are invited to come as you are. All of you is welcome.
