Voice Dialogue

Using what I learned

I spent about a year working with an analyst using voice dialogue. I found the whole experience extremely useful, and (in what i think is the mark of successful therapy) I still use a lot of what I learned. Today’s draft is an attempt to describe what it’s like.

Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when publishedWhen you are certain, she said, that is when you know this is a Self. You job is to discover what they needand give it to them. She is 14 years old and she stands, arms crossed over her belly, pouting like a two-year-old,stonewalling like the oldest loneliest creaturein a big, bustling city. Go ahead and try -- ask her what she needs -- watch her plant her weight into her right hip. Stay balanced on your own feet, send your softness to meet her hardness. The rips in time of their meetingwill give you both space to breathe.

That Oxygen Mask Thing

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to lead a DANCEMandala sessions for some of my fellow facilitators. Here is what one of the participants said:

I take care of people all day. I had forgotten how powerful it is to return to the self, to return to my own body so I can bring my best to work.

They learned to give themselves their own oxygen before assisting others.

Starting in December, I will be offering twice monthly DANCEMandala movement meditation sessions for all paid subscribers. These sessions will be offered virtually, via Zoom.

Paid subscriptions start at $5/month. Your support makes it possible to keep writing and exploring the creative process together.
