Traveling

Distance makes perspective

I am taking my first real trip since March 2020, and find that it reinforces things that were hints, and turns up the volume on things that were whispers while we all were stuck in our limited square miles.

“That city takes the past

and uses it to smother the present.”

He rolled from heel to toe and back again,

standing at the plate glass window

six stories over renewed life.

A summer afternoon storm rolled across the sky,

barely dusting the ground with wetness

before the clouds broke,

letting through the smell of air across the Great Lake.
