Touching Jane Goodall

In the space with something wonderful

Today’s draft was written the morning after weeping my way through Famous Last Words with Jane Goodall. It is well worth the time to watch, if you have the opportunity. This draft references a story Jane Goodall tells during the interview.

I know why that person wanted to touch Jane Goodall.

I believe when her particular soul was formed

out of the holy clay of being,

it retained just a little extra of

the Love that drives the universe.

Jane said she was obstinate, so maybe

she held on with just a little more force

to the feeling and the knowing of the Great Everything.

Her eyes, therefore, never lost their gentleness and she knew,

as she breathed her first human breath,

the entire trajectory of her life.

That person wanted to touch Jane Goodall for the same reason

icons ans statues become worn and faded in just one touchable spot.

It is a hope for blessings —

a hope for skin to remember

when it was in the spaces between air and earth,

when we were Love, fused with everything.
