Time on the Plains
The effects of a different place
I am spending some extended time back in the Chicago area. It is lovely to be here for so many reasons, and today’s draft is consideration of maybe one of those reasons.
Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when publishedThis is what happens on the plains: There is a vast open flatness of the land to the lake which spreads out into a mist and in this space I can breathe. I can once again find the edges of my lungs and caress them from the inside with the air of a different place. In the unbroken flatness of the prairie (never mind the roads and buildings and cities built over it) I have the space to expand. There is nothing to touch the edges. My body moves through the molecules of new air finds its shape again.
