Threats
Just pondering some old night terrors
As I write this draft, we’ve all voted, and most of the races are called. We’re still waiting on final results for the balance of power in the Senate, but it does feel like I can exhale (a little bit.) All the tension of this whole season has got me thinking about recurring childhood dreams and such, the inspiration for today’s draft.
Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when publishedOnce I knew there was a monster climbing the walls of my house. He trained in the day by hanging from rocks with his fingertipsso he could climb the brick wall, even in a thunderstorm. I knew with the certainty of a child's mindthat the only thing keeping him outside (keeping me safee)was a force field embedded in Strawberry Shortcake sheetspulled up to the center of my chin. Sometime in the middle of the night this year, someone tried to get into my home.I heard him scraping (a key) at the lock, twisting the handle, cycling through keys.I knew with the certainty of my adult mindthe only thing keeping me safewas my beloved's voice on the phonewhispering in my ear -- "I'm here."
