Simple Discomforts
Finding the way to now
Y’all. While I have been keeping up with the NaNo daily word count goal, pulling anything workable out of it has been a challenge. The combination of early darkness, teaching a very intense class, and post-midterm hangover has made it hard to find poetry for a few days. This, too, is the process. After this month is over, I’ll go back over those pages and pages of what felt like nonsense and find something that brings joy — I guarantee it. And for now, this draft will have to hold the spot.
Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when publishedThese are the days when the long morning walk peace dissolveswith the whirr of the furnace kicking into lifeas the first text of the day comes through. Always know --this body can only ever be in the now.Come back from the budgets, the tasks, the endless mirrored hallway of regretCome back to the chipped-edged polished toes of your feetto the softly sloping bellypressed against the tops of your thighsto the particular feeling of that one shoulder bladethat sits a little higher than the other.Walk into the opening of your perfect fragility. The simple discomforts of a body in winter.
Introducing — Twice Monthly DANCEMandala Movement Meditations
Starting in December, I will be offering twice monthly DANCEMandala movement meditation sessions for all paid subscribers. These sessions will be offered virtually, via Zoom. I have found movement to be one of the primary ways I can reconnect to my writing self when it seems lost (like today.)
Paid subscriptions start at $5/month. Your support makes it possible to keep writing and exploring the creative process together.
