Shine

An imperative for a dark time

Dear Ones. Just a short draft today that grew out of a conversation around who we need to be now, in this time, when “wrong comes up to face us everywhere.” Breathe in. Breathe out. Hold your precious ones close. (And remember — all are precious ones.) Shine on.

When held fast to my chair by the weight of all that is beyond my control,

I struggle to find a way to rise, to move, to exist —

Just then, a radiance of cardinals speaks into the bright May morning

drawing my eyes to the windows

where the magnolia blossoms shine open

the sky holds a bright Artist’s light —

Ah yes. Of course. I remember what do to —

We have only to shine our light enough

that even a closed eye must open to it.
