On Watching the Last Episode of Voyager
The end of the story
Today’s draft was inspired by watching the final episode of the final season of Star Trek: Voyager. And by looking back not at the show, but at the moments of life that held the watching of the show. This is one of the most unfinished drafts of the last few weeks — I’m just sort of peeking at what I want to capture here. Like many of these drafts, it feels like a placeholder that will mark the idea for when I return to revise it.
Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when publishedAnd so it is done. The evenings of curling into one another, watching this story unfold and then gather into its final, neat ending. Now we move forward with our real life -- rolling tufts of cat hair in the corners,a broken lamp, dishes in the sink, waking up to pee in the middle of the night.I lean into your arms with the full weight of my bodywhile the things of time slip through the no-space between us:summer daylight, the flowers on the mantelpiece, our own precious breath. It leaves a residue, like sugar, dissolves into memory the instant we taste it.
