Mutable Earth

I learned that my astrological sign is a mutable earth sign. This means many things, of course, but mostly — it is a phrase that lights up my brain and makes me think of fairy tale forests.

Sign, moss-covered,

melting into the sweet-smelling forest floor.

There was a path here once,

tidied by human feet bent on destruction.

Slowly, slowly it has returned, swallowed

by the small green living things

growing between the bones of this earth.

Any human foot here now

treads the soil like water--

one quick breath away from going under

with no sign lingering on the calm, green surface.
