Love Song from a Teenager
I hate you. I love you. Don't leave me.

In a recent workshop, we were invited to write a love song to the Divine Mother. And I discovered that I need to rebel against her, just like a human mother.
They told me to write you a love song.
So here is my teenage love song,
while I grow through and away from you
in order to return to you again.
My love song sounds like:
I hate you where have you been why aren't you looking at me why are you like this—
My love song cries on the floor like a toddler
rolling around with fierce abandon.
My love song trusts you to be there —
just at the edge of my vision —
moving the table before I hit it with my forehead,
placing a pillow exactly where my hands strike the floor.
My love song stands on wobbling legs,
stepping like a newborn foal
back into the shadow of your protection.
