Lake Michigan, Late August
Cold water, warm air
I just got back from another visit to the Chicago area. As always happens, I am missing the lake and find that I just want to write about her. Today I got to thinking about glaciers and how the water of Lake Michigan is chilly, even in the heat of summer. This draft may not be geologically accurate, but it’s a start.
Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when publishedI stand with my feet in Lake Michiganheld by the water-tumbled stonesheavy summer air suspended over the glass-smooth water. Here is where a glacier pausedto take a breath and sighat the nature of its own destruction. I walk into the water, catch my breath as its elemental chill finds my bellya long forgotten ice-field whispersRemember me.
