As I write this newsletter, it is the day after *that* winter storm passed through my town. It’s bitter cold outside. I’ve been sitting with blankets, my beloved, a cat, and a space heater (in addition to the furnace), keeping comfortable. I wrote my way into today’s draft while reflecting on the limits of our senses and the ice crystals covering my poor, drafty windows. This one feels like it’s got a missing tail. When I come back to it, I hope to find the other half (as well as revising what’s already there.)

Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when publishedThere is a point at which the cold can't get any colder. When ice crystals form on all the windowsso I feel like I live inside quartz. Doesn't it hurt -- the pressure of the crystal walls -- how can I possibly breathe? The thing about quartz is it is built on air -- two oxygen for every silicon --billions of pyramids pulled into solidity by the bonds of the senses.Open the senses, the crystal opens too.
