Happy World Menopause Day!

The Crone is the natural enemy of the patriarchy

Psst — hey — have you heard of . . . . . . menopause?

I, and many of the women I love, are somewhere in that transition into and through menopause. Our experiences are vastly different but we all share one thing in common — we all feel there aren’t nearly enough spaces where the menopause transition is talked about, understood , and celebrated.

So today, being World Menopause Day, we celebrate. And in this space, we celebrate with a poem draft.

I am told

the wind blows through the dessicated lands of my uterus

picks up the scent of decay

places foul smelling molecules around me.

I become repellent.

I know

the wind blows through the wide open space of my uterus

picks up debris from an earlier life

places a ring of impenetrable fire around me.

I become invincible.

I am pleased to announce that, along with my friend Malik Turley, I am opening the doors to Crone School in January. If you are a person experiencing perimenopause, menopause, or preparing for that transition in the future, you are welcome. We are keeping the group small for the most personalized experience, so I encourage you to register soon.

We will meet each Sunday for four weeks, and each will focus on a common perimenopausal theme: Sensation, Smarts, Sex, and Sleep. Each meeting will feature study, support, and movement -- something for us to read and talk about, a space to share our needs/concerns/ideas, and a bit of moving our bodies with love and attention.

If this speaks to you, Malik and I hope you will join us. All of you is welcome here.
