Family Hug

Warm greetings in hard times

Hello Dear Ones! How is your summer going? Mine has been mostly lovely, despite the less-than-ideal conditions as I write this. (I’m in the back seat of a car, about four hours from home. It is pouring rain and everything smells like manure for some reason.) Today’s draft was inspired by the reason for this road trip.

Even your genuine smile can’t

hold back this grief so vast, so large,

so woven into every thread of your existence.

It’s okay.

I know how to swim in it.

We can be good at words forever,

but stranded here in the ocean of She’s Gone,

better to hug one another,

shaping ourselves into a life raft.
