Embrace

I am contemplating the question: “What do you adore?” And I am contemplating the related question: “What is the difference between adoration and delight?” And I don’t care whether deep loving hugs are one or the other. I only care that they exist.

Embrace me with your whole arms—

Chest to chest, ear to ear—

Close enough and long enough

for our hearts to trade places

beat for a moment or two inside each other’s bodies and

in that moment shine adoration

into every cell of our beloved beings

bright enough to leave behind

sunset purple illumination,

a royal brilliant throne.

When we step out of each other’s arms.

when out hearts return,

they beat into a body changed from vessel to holy shrine.
