Curtain Down

Reaching beyond the barriers

shallow focus photography of spider web

A couple of days ago, I stumbled into further insight about what I am actually doing when I go looking for poetry. I am aware that I stumble across words or phrases or hints of feeling and they kind of stick to me like a spiderweb. When I write these drafts, it’s like trying to pick apart the spiderweb strands without breaking them. Today’s draft started when I stumbled into the last two lines.

Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when publishedShe presents her heart like the dropping of a closing night curtain. We always arrive too late for whatever spoke and sparkledbehind that thick velvet wall.See! The miraculous woman of no feelingsguarding her black hole of untouched pain.(She has left a gap, you know, right where the curtain meets the stage. It's okay to lie down, stretch your hand throughfeel what's there -- Nothing is untouchable.Only untouched.)
