Consider the Land

Some thoughts on being nature

Hello Dear Ones. I feel like I have turned a corner and am slowly merging from winter blah-town. (More on how you can do the same below.) This morning I returned to morning pages for the first time in a while. While writing about an upcoming trip and considering how to be a conscious visitor to a fragile place, I wrote today’s draft. This was a draft that started with the phrase “to accept gracefully and give back mindfully.” I liked the rhythm of it, so I started playing around with putting it in a poem.

Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when publishedConsider the land where you choose to rest your body.Generations of colonizers want to guide your handsto shape this place into your home. Stop them. Listen instead to what the land wants to offer,a softer voice that landsin the deepest cavern of your ear. You can hear it.Let it tell you how to accept gracefullyto give back mindfully and finally, to rest peacefully, soft among the warm hands of the soil.

One thing that’s helping me is looking forward to Winter Camp, a new online gathering created by my friend Brianne. (Brianne also writes a beautiful newsletter called Odyssey of the Body. I recommend it.) I’ll be leading a session of DANCEmandala for the Winter Camp participants, as part of the full program of daily prompts, opportunities for movement and creativity, and warm supportive community.

Winter Camp starts on February 25. If you are looking for a spark of joy, encouragement, and community in this cold, dark season, you need Winter Camp. Learn more and register here. The code DAILYBREATH will get you $80 off registration.
