The light that illuminates the path you can't see

Not much to say about this breath, just that there are moments when the image is absolutely everything. And finding words to carry it from my experience to yours is a completely joyful frustration.

We sat on the floor in the evening,

October light pouring through the South-West windows.

“Do you see that branch?” you said, “With the red leaves around the one dead one?”

Through my astigmatism I could see clusters of red among the still-green,

starburst of sunsetting gold in between,

and the outline of your face, obscured by shadow,

illuminated by soft golden love.
